Can wood glue be used for other materials?

Wood glue, also known as PVA glue, is mainly used for joining wooden parts. While it is excellent for woodworking, its effectiveness on other materials is often limited.

One of the main reasons for this is that wood glue relies on absorption by the material to cure. Since metals, plastics, and many other materials cannot absorb this moisture, the glue does not adhere well and therefore cannot create the same strong bonds as it does with wood.

Nevertheless, wood glue can be used in some cases for materials such as paper and fabric. With these materials, the moisture in the glue evaporates, leaving behind a solid bond.

  • Paper: PVA glue can be used for bookbinding, collages, and other paper crafts.
  • Fabric: Although there are special fabric glues, PVA glue can be used for light textile projects where a strong bond is not essential.

Even if wood glue works for these materials, you should always use a specialty adhesive for the specific material to achieve the best results.
