How do I replace a euro cylinder lock?

Replacing a profile cylinder is a relatively simple task that you can complete quickly with a few hand tools and the right instructions. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Take a screwdriver and remove the fixing screw located in the edge of the door. You will find this screw at the height of the lock cylinder.
  • Turn the key in the lock to the position that is about 15 degrees away from the vertical, i.e. roughly in the direction you would turn it to open the door.
  • Now pull out the cylinder by gently moving the key back and forth while pulling on the key.
  • You can now insert the replacement cylinder. Make sure that the key in the new cylinder is in the same position as in the old one when it was removed.
  • Slide the new cylinder in and check that it is correctly positioned by turning the key and seeing whether the lock works smoothly.
  • If everything works properly, secure the new cylinder with the fixing screw you removed earlier.

This process should take less than an hour and depends on your skill with hand tools.
