How do spring lid stays work?
Spring hinges, also known as stay hinges or flap fittings, are special fittings in furniture that make it easier to open doors and lids using a spring mechanism. They can be mounted horizontally or vertically and are often used in kitchen cabinets, office furniture, or dressers.
The way a spring hinge works is very simple yet technically sophisticated: spring hinges use spring force to open doors or lids when activated. They consist of two main elements:
- The mounting: This is attached directly to the frame of the furniture piece and provides the fixing point for the fitting.
- The spring mechanism: This is embedded within the fitting and ensures that a spring is tensioned when activated. When the tension is released, the door leaf or lid opens.
Thanks to the spring force, the door leaf or lid can be opened and closed easily and conveniently. In addition, the spring ensures that the door leaf or lid remains in the open position without the need for additional supports. A major advantage of spring hinges is that they are suitable for many different types of doors and lids, and are therefore very versatile.
