How does a laser distance meter work?
A laser distance meter is a modern and precise device used to measure distances. It sends beams of light, usually laser, to a target and detects the reflected light. The process of measuring distance is quite complex, but it can be divided into four basic steps:
- Starting point: The user places the device at the point from which the distance is to be measured.
- Emitting the laser: After aligning it with the target, the distance meter emits a laser beam. This beam is so thin and precise that it can also be directed at very small targets.
- Reflection and detection: The emitted beam hits the target and is reflected. This reflected beam is detected and analyzed by the distance meter.
- Calculation and result display: The device calculates the time the laser beam needed to travel to the target and back. With this information, the distance meter can then quickly and precisely calculate the exact distance and display it on its screen.
Laser distance meters are useful tools for many professional and DIY tasks, such as construction work, room planning, or furniture installation.
