Is wood glue waterproof or water-resistant?
Wood glue can be either waterproof or water-resistant, depending on the type of glue you use. In general, there are two main categories of wood glue - those classified as waterproof and those classified as water-resistant.
Waterproof wood glue is formulated to be completely impervious to water. It is ideal for projects exposed to direct and constant moisture. Waterproof glue undergoes a special treatment that protects it against water penetration, even when it is immersed in water for a long time.
- Example: polyurethane wood glue.
On the other hand, water-resistant wood glue can withstand a certain amount of moisture, but is not designed for constant contact with water. Many indoor wood adhesives fall into this category. They are ideal for projects that may occasionally get wet, but are not continuously exposed to moisture.
- Example: PVA wood glue (polyvinyl acetate).
Depending on the purpose you need the glue for, you can decide which type is suitable for your project.
