What are the steps for applying adhesives and sealants?

The application of adhesives and sealants can be carried out in six simple steps:

  • Surface preparation: It is important that the surfaces to be bonded or sealed are clean, dry, and free from grease and dust. Depending on the surface material, special cleaning or pretreatment may be required.
  • Selecting the right adhesive or sealant: Depending on the material and the application, the appropriate adhesive and sealant should be selected. Some products are designed for specific materials, while others are suitable for universal use.
  • Applying the adhesive or sealant: The adhesive or sealant is applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions. As a rule, application is done using a cartridge and a dispensing gun.
  • Joining the parts: The parts to be bonded or sealed should be firmly joined together and/or pressed. Some products require a specific waiting time or special pressure conditions.
  • Allowing to dry: After assembly, adhesives and sealants must be left to dry. Drying time varies depending on the product and environmental conditions.
  • Post-processing: After drying, excess adhesive or sealant residue can be removed and the bond can be further processed if necessary.

These general steps should be followed for most adhesive and sealant applications, but please always refer to the specific instructions for the respective product.
