What are threaded rods and what are they used for?
Threaded rods are long metal rods that are threaded along their entire length with a continuous thread. They are available in a wide variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, brass, and nylon, to meet different requirements.
Threaded rods serve four main purposes in the DIY and construction industries:
- Construction and repair: When building structures and buildings, threaded rods are often used to securely join two materials together. They can also be used in the manufacture of household items and in furniture repair.
- Anchoring: Threaded rods can serve as anchors to securely fasten a structure into the ground, or to anchor heavy equipment.
- Through bolts: When a robust connection is required, especially when fastening wood, threaded rods can serve as through bolts. They can pass through the entire material and then be secured with nuts or washers.
- Extension rods: Threaded rods can also function as extension rods when a screw or bolt does not have the required length. They can be fitted with nuts at both ends and cut to the needed length.
