What is the difference between a sliding bolt and a rotary latch?

A slide bolt and a turn bolt are both types of locking systems that are often used on doors, windows, or cabinets. Both serve the same purpose, namely securing and locking objects, but the way they work is different.

A slide bolt is a mechanism in which a bolt or another locking part is pushed into position to lock a door or another object. In this case, the bolt is usually moved horizontally, and opening or closing takes place through a direct sliding motion.

  • Advantage: Easy to operate through direct sliding motion
  • Disadvantage: Can bend or damage the frame if excessive force is applied

A turn bolt, on the other hand, is a lock that is operated by a turning motion. In this case, the bolt is rotated around an axis to open or lock it.

  • Advantage: Usually offers a higher level of security, as it is more difficult to tamper with
  • Disadvantage: Can be somewhat more difficult to operate, especially for people with less hand strength or mobility limitations

The choice between a slide bolt and a turn bolt depends on the level of security and ease of use you prefer.
