What types of door dampers are available and what are their differences?
There are various types of door dampers, each with different functions and features. Basically, however, they all serve the same purpose: they prevent doors from closing too quickly or too forcefully, thereby avoiding damage and noise.
Three main types can be distinguished:
- Hydraulic door dampers: These are equipped with a hydraulic system that slows the door’s closing motion. They are generally very durable and robust and can be used for both interior and exterior doors. There are models that are screwed on as well as those that are pressed into the door or door frame.
- Pneumatic door dampers: Pneumatic door dampers use air pressure to regulate the closing motion. They are often lighter and easier to install than hydraulic dampers, but they cannot support as much weight and may be less durable.
- Magnetic door dampers: This type of damper uses magnets to close the door gently. They are usually very quiet and provide very smooth closing movement, but they cannot support as much weight as hydraulic or pneumatic dampers and may not be suitable for all types of doors.
Which door damper is right for you depends on various factors, such as the weight and type of the door, the environmental conditions, and your personal preferences regarding installation and handling.
