The advantage of these load-bearing elements: they are extremely robust, stable, and durable, and can be installed quickly. Finding the right strap hinges

To find the right strap hinge, three aspects are especially important:

  • Length: The strap hinge should be at least two-thirds as long as the width of the gate you want to attach. This means that, for example, if you have a gate 90 cm wide, you need a strap hinge that is at least 60 cm long.
  • Material: Whether stainless steel, yellow zinc-plated, or hot-dip galvanized – strap hinges are available in different versions. They are suitable not only for indoor use, but also for outdoor use. In addition, the thickness of the respective material plays a role. The rule is: the heavier the version, the more stable the strap hinge. Heavy doors and gates therefore require more robust strap hinges, while lighter versions can use more delicate strap hinges.
  • Area of use: The intended use usually also determines whether a fixed or adjustable strap hinge is more suitable. While strap hinges indoors are often fixed, adjustable strap hinges are the better choice for wooden doors or gates outdoors. Gates or wooden fences outside the house are exposed to the weather and can therefore warp. If they no longer close properly after some time, they can be quickly readjusted.
